India Has 2,117 GCCs Now and the Gen Z Job Market Just Changed Forever

India just crossed 2,117 Global Capability Centres, and most Gen Z job seekers have not clocked what that number actually means. The Nasscom-Zinnov GCC report puts sector revenue at USD 98.4 billion for FY26, with 2.36 million people now working inside GCCs across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.

This is not a side hustle for foreign multinationals anymore. It is the biggest hiring engine in urban India right now, quietly bigger than the IT services companies everyone's uncle still talks about at weddings.

Yaar, this shift already happened. Nobody sent the memo.

Compare that to what is happening one floor down in traditional IT. TCS lost close to 23,000 employees in a single year, and Cognizant cut another 15,000 jobs in India on top of that.

Campus placement season, once the safest bet on any engineering calendar, ban gayi ek jhol ka naam ho gaya hai for a whole batch of graduates. GCCs did not get that memo. They are hiring product managers, data scientists, and AI engineers, not just call centre shifts.

Why GCC Hiring Looks Nothing Like Old IT Jobs

According to Business Standard's coverage of the Nasscom-Zinnov numbers, 506 of the Forbes Global 2000 companies now run a GCC out of India, and the centres have grown 32 percent since FY2021. That growth is not about cost arbitrage anymore.

Global companies are handing India teams actual ownership of products, platforms, and business outcomes, not just backend support tickets. Mein khud has seen job postings shift from process executive to senior product owner inside the same building, same floor, same team.

Walk into Bengaluru's Manyata Tech Park or Hyderabad's Financial District and you will find teams from Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Walmart Global Tech, and Google running core global functions, not support desks. These are engineering hubs with real global ownership now.

Tab tak everyone assumed GCC meant call centre. Wrong.

More than 1,200 GCCs in India have already built out AI and machine learning teams, and there is an AI talent pool of roughly 250,000 professionals feeding them. For a fresh graduate, that is a very different resume line than support associate, night shift.

Salaries have moved accordingly, and so has the seniority bar. Recruiters are not just filling seats anymore. They are hiring people who can own outcomes from day one, which changes what your first job actually looks like.

Career counsellors are catching up slowly. Most still frame GCCs as a backup option behind product startups and big tech offers, when the actual headcount data says otherwise for this year.

What This Means For Your Naukri Search

If you are graduating in the next two years, court mein appeal karne jaisa nahi hai, this is simple math. The sector projects 2,400 to 2,500 plus centres and up to 3 million jobs by 2030.

That is where the volume is going to be, not in mass campus hiring at legacy IT firms that are still trimming headcount. Tailor your resume for GCC job descriptions specifically, not generic fresher templates.

Skills matter more than pedigree here. Cloud, data engineering, and applied AI show up in almost every GCC listing right now, alongside basic product sense.

Sarkar naukri used to be the safe fallback for risk averse families. GCC roles are quietly becoming the new version of that stability, minus the transfer postings and the retirement-age promotion ladder.

Script chali, and nobody in Tier 2 colleges got the update yet.

That gap is the actual story. Metro college placement cells are still pitching students toward companies that are shrinking headcount, while GCCs in the same cities are running open roles nobody applies for because the students never heard the acronym explained properly.

None of this shows up on the usual placement brochures either, because most GCCs hire directly through LinkedIn, employee referrals, and their own career pages instead of the campus circuit colleges are used to running.

If your college has not updated its placement pitch since before the pandemic, do not wait for it to catch up. Search company career pages directly for roles tagged Global Capability Centre or GCC India, not just the standard listings.

Bridging that gap is worth more than one more mock interview session. It is worth an actual afternoon spent reading GCC job descriptions line by line before you write another generic cover letter.

So bhai, are you tracking GCC job postings yet, or still waiting for placement cell to explain what changed?
