Arijit Singh Just Sang Kaahe Mose Live and Two Indie Artists Woke Up Famous

Arijit Singh just stood on stage, paused mid-setlist, and performed a song that is not his. Kaahe Mose, a classical rock ballad by indie duo Garvit Priyansh, got the biggest live co-sign Indian independent music has ever seen. Singh called it his favourite song right now.

Bas ek gaana, yaar. That is all it took.

He told the crowd to remember the names behind it, and the internet did what it always does when Arijit says a name out loud, it went looking, immediately.

Garvit and Priyansh did not come up through the Bollywood playback machine. Priyansh studied mechanical engineering in Germany while Garvit pursued music and economics at MSU Baroda, and their story actually began on Instagram in late 2021, when Priyansh messaged Garvit after seeing one of his reels and asked to collaborate on a cover.

That message became their first original song Sanware, written and produced remotely over Zoom calls and voice notes in January 2022, while the two were still living in different countries.

Kaahe Mose blends Hindustani classical vocals with a soft rock texture that feels like nothing else on Indian playlists right now. The song has crossed 3.2 million Spotify streams and over 1.6 million YouTube views. Sach mein, for two independent artists, that is not a small number.

A superstar who could perform any track from his own catalogue chose an indie song and told a stadium full of people to remember who made it. Bollywood does not hand out that kind of validation for free, and it almost never hands it to outsiders. Within hours of the concert video going viral, the duo gained thousands of new followers.

Prateek Kuhad, When Chai Met Toast, and The Local Train built this audience one gig at a time, na, without a single Bollywood credit between them. Garvit Priyansh did not even need that much runway. They needed one song good enough for Arijit Singh to call it his favourite, and most signed artists with a decade of releases never clear that bar.

The Statesman reported that Singh shouted out the duo by name during the concert, asking the audience to search for Garvit Priyansh after the show. The track is entirely self-written, self-composed, and self-performed, which is rare in an industry where playback singers dominate and songwriters stay invisible.

By August 2022 the duo had moved to Mumbai, set up their own studio, and signed with T-Series, releasing original songs with professionally produced videos while performing live across the country.
